Quebec Tour 2016
Between King Philip's War in 1675-76 and the fall of Quebec in 1759 almost 1,000 captives—soldiers and civilians, men, women, and children—were taken by Natives and French from the New England frontier to Canada.
On July 16-July 24, 2016, NEHGS and Donald Friary—experienced tour leader, historian, and former Executive Director of Historic Deerfield—led a group of NEHGS members on a once-in-a-lifetime tour, tracing the captives’ route north and recounting the story of their lives and fates.
Participants traveled north from Boston to Montreal and Quebec, stopping at Native sites, museums, and places of historical significance. With narration and activities throughout the week, guests learned first hand about Native American culture and New England history—all while enjoying the magnificent scenery of the St. Lawrence valley.
